First-Time Aupairs

Becoming an aupair gives you the opportunity to enrich your life as an
integral part of another family and culture. An aupair is not just a babysitter,
but as a big sister who is from an exciting, far away land. An aupair devotes
full attention to the children in the chosen family. You will learn their daily
routines and unique personalities and enjoy participating in their daily growth
and development. Think about the relationship you would like to form with a
family and the type of situation you would like to help you choose the right
family for you. Below are some are some guidelines to give you an idea of what
to expect when you work as an aupair for the first time:

Click here for further information on aupair and nanny Salaries. The aupairs
average weekly salary for 30-to-45 hours of childcare is AUD$100 – $200
depending on education, experience, responsibilities and hours.
An aupairs living expenses, which include a room and board, are covered by
the family, unless the aupair requires unique dietary items for which she/he
should be responsible. Also the aupair is responsible for all his/her personal
items such as toiletries, health supplements, hair care items, etc.
A private bedroom should be provided for the aupair. Extra amenities in the
room such as TV, stereo, phone, computer, are not required. but, many families
will provide those items for the comfort of the aupair.
The family will expect the aupair to pay for her/his long distance and
mobile phone calls.
If the aupair is required to drive the children to and from school and other
activities, and/or do the grocery shopping, the family pays for fuel, oil and
car maintenance. The family can expect the aupair to pay for fuel when she/he
uses the family car for her/his personal errands.
The aupair is generally responsible for her/his medical insurance/expenses.
Airfare for the aupair is usually negotiable. Families and aupairs often
split the cost of a roundtrip ticket. If the aupair does not have the money to
pay for her/his half of the ticket in advance, families can cover the cost and
deduct the balance from wages. :

Frequently Asked Questions Author : admin

10/15
How do we know that Global-Nannies has appropriate available candidates?
Global-Nannies offers a large selection of Aupairs and Nannies to view with free guest registration. The only difference between the free registration and the paid membership is that the contact information (email, telephone numbers, addresses) is hidden from view.
How much should I pay?
You, the family, are responsible for establishing the Aupair/Nanny salary with the candidate. Aupair/Nanny candidates are asked to state their salary expectations in their online profile to assist you in pre screening the candidate database. Remember that experienced nannies are in great demand. However, salaries that escalated in the late '90s have now settled down. The Aupairs average weekly salary for 30 to 45 hours of childcare is AUD$100 to $200 and may be less in other countries. Nannies salary is negotiated with the Family depending on qualification, experience, responsibilites and hours.

Remember Aupairs are gaining more than payment; they receive a great opportunity to enrich their lives by experiencing another culture and language.
What is a Paid Member?
A paid member is someone who has created their profile on Global-Nannies, and paid their membership fee which gives them access to the contact information of all other Aupair/Nanny profiles or Family profiles dependant on there requirements, and the Members Toolbox which gives them a range of tools to help make your process easy.
What is an Aupair?
Aupairs are like big sisters from another interesting country. Aupairs are mothers help. They take care of children as young as new born. From bathing and dressing to feeding and diapering. They take an interest in the education and development of your child. Read, play games, exercise and make sure they get to that band or sport practice.
An aupair can, make all the difference to your family life. Wouldn't an extra pair of hands come in handy? Helping with the housework, cooking occasional meals, looking after the children and babysitting occasionally.
Just imagine how much easier it would be. More time for you to have that quality playtime with your child, or the extra help on family outings.
Your family would also benefit from coming into contact with a different culture and background.

Selecting your aupair

Once you have made contact with several aupairs, determined their visa requirements, thoroughly checked their references and decided on the particular aupair you wish to hire, the next step is to be clear about your criteria, salary, timing, etc. and then extend an offer to the aupair of your choice. Global-Nannies provides you with ‘a letter of invitation’ as a guide to making an offer to the chosen aupair. there are also interview questions that may help you proceed. These items can be found in the ‘Family toolkit’.

First-time families

Hiring the right aupair for your family can restore balance and peace to the typically hectic lives we have come to lead. Finding the right aupair requires thoughtful evaluation of the type of person that best suits your family. To assist you in forming a successful relationship with your chosen aupair, we have provided some general guidelines to give you an idea of what to expect when hiring an aupair for the first time.

The aupairs average weekly salary for 30-to-45 hours of childcare is AUD$100 – $200 depending on education, experience, responsibilities and hours;
An aupair’s living expenses, which include room and board, are covered by the family, unless the aupair requires unique dietary items for which she/he should be responsible. Also the aupair is responsible for all personal items such as toiletries, health supplements, hair care items, etc ;
A private bedroom should be provided for the aupair. Extra amenities in the room such as TV, stereo, phone, computer, are not required. However, the more comfortable an aupair feels in your home, the more successful the arrangement is likely to be. If you put a little energy into creating a warm environment for your aupair, it is more likely that your aupair will feel genuinely welcomed and respond positively to your family;
The family can expect the aupair to pay for her/his long distance phone calls;
If the aupair is required to drive the children to and from school and activities, and/or do the grocery shopping, the family pays for fuel and maintenance. The family can expect the aupair to pay for fuel when she/he uses the car for her/his personal errands. Many car insurance policies cover houseguests driving your vehicle for limited time periods. There is also the option of adding your aupair to your insurance policy for the duration of their stay. Be sure to check with your insurer to make the most informed decision;
The aupair is generally responsible for her/his medical insurance/expenses;
Airfare for the aupair is usually negotiable. Families and aupairs often split the cost of a roundtrip ticket. If the aupair doesn’t have the money to pay for her/his half of the ticket up front, families can cover the cost and deduct the balance from wages;
We highly recommend that you ask for and check an aupair’s references before making a commitment to offer. In the event the aupair does not have previous aupair experience, ask for references from previous employers and/or teachers if they are recently out of school.
